Greetings, SRBLSA Family!
It is a pleasure and great honor to serve as 2016-2017 Regional Chair of the Sophisticated Southern Region of the National Black Law Students Association. I, along with the regional executive board, am excited to serve our membership. Our main goal this year is to equip our members with the tools, knowledge and opportunities they will need to be a strong voice for those with no voice. Through the use of community outreach, academic excellence, advocacy, and alumni engagement we will foster an environment conducive to the success of our members.
This year’s theme is “Together We Rise: Lifting Up a New Generation of Justice Advocates.” Our programming will focus on enhancing the academic and professional development of our members. SRBLSA members will also be given the opportunity to write-on to SRBLSA’s Law Journal, the Southern Journal of Policy and Justice. The Annual SRBLSA Job Fair and Chapter Leadership Retreat will be held in Miami, FL, and we will also host five academic retreats throughout the region. We will provide our members with ample opportunities to give back during our Regional Community Service Weekend, our Academic Retreats, the MLK National Day of Service, and many more events.
The Annual SRBLSA Regional Convention will take place on February 1-5, 2017 in Atlanta, GA. This year, we look forward to revitalizing our regional programming, leaving a lasting impact in our communities, empowering our membership to excel to new heights, and increasing the number of participants in our annual convention. Join us as we Rise Together!
In SRBLSA Service and Love,
Travis D. Thomas

5. SRBLSA Remaining Community Service Goals
SRBLSA is also competing for Region of the Year so it is imperative that we are executing regional goals as well. Most chapters have already been doing a lot of projects to support the national goals so we want to say thank you. But we still have a little bit more to go to ensure that we are presenting our best packet to compete nationally.
For the balance of the year we want to encourage you all to get involved in the following activities and ensure we get it documented:
December & January
*December – Coats Drive and/or Can Food Drive
*January – National Mentoring
We are almost to the end but we have to push a little harder to get us over the goal line. Thank you for all your effort and I look forward to seeing you in Atlanta.
